My First Article for FoodFamilyTravel.com
Sep 04, 2025
Hello Darlings!
It's been a minute. Life was busy as summer wrapped and my first ever back-to-school season with Rose really kicked my butt. Plus as many of you know, I've also been working on short format essays and though I'm continuing my daily writing practice, unfortunately that time was not spent on this newsletter/blog Just. Be. You.
Lately, I've been focused on staying present and connecting with other moms over coffee, at drop-off, or even making new acquaintances at the gym...all in service of building an intimate community and holding space for the honest conversations that we all need from our female friendships.
On a broader scale, that looks like guest spots on podcasts, some recent press in Forbes, Parents, The Bump, and The Mother Chapter, and now most recently as a contributor for FoodFamilyTravel.com.
Is the ‘Euro Mom’ Trend All It’s Cracked Up to Be? I Spent Three Weeks in France. Here’s What I Took Away (and What I Left) As a New Mom
When I first packed up my one-year-old for an extended trip to France, I had a fantasy of becoming the ultimate Euro Mom—effortless, chic, and unbothered. Joe and I were so eager to share all the things we loved about Chamonix with her that we perhaps forgot that Rose is perpetually a girl on the move.
Pamela Druckerman's Bringing Up Bébé: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting inspired millions of American mothers to try a different approach, and I too was determined to perfect this art in three short weeks. But parenting doesn’t take a vacation—even in the Alps. Still, navigating rude waiters, jet lag, and playgrounds did force a new confidence, slower pace, and an ease we had not experienced at home. More profoundly, letting go of any preconceived notions about our trip further allowed my husband and daughter to bond in the most heartwarming new ways. These experiences have in turn strengthened our marriage and the way we travel as a family. More on that later...
In my latest piece, I share my takeaways about motherhood, travel, and the myth/legend of the Euro Mom. You can read the full article here: "Is the ‘Euro Mom’ Trend All It’s Cracked Up to Be? I Spent Three Weeks in France. Here’s What I Took Away (and What I Left) As a New Mom".
It's been months since I first wrote this piece and even more has changed since then, but I'd love to hear your thoughts and adventures while traveling with a toddler or family of your own. The good, the bad, the ugly. I'm all ears!
With much love,
Katherine Rose Woller
