Coucou from Chamonix, France

It’s been a few weeks since my last email, but I thank you for your grace. 

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that our family took a little sojourn to Chamonix this month, and I used it as a work hiatus as well. 

I wanted to soak up every moment with Rose and Joe, which meant I missed a week with you. C’est la vie.

As with any family vacation, it was a Herculean effort to get us all (and our luggage) there and back, but the reward was equally as sizable.

Though we have been lucky to travel often with Rose, this was our first big trip abroad, our first long-haul flight, and our first immersion into a different parenting ethos. And let me tell you, it was freeing. 

To relax into the seemingly laissez-faire, slightly more hands-off approach of the French was as enjoyable for me as it was beneficial for Rose. 

She explored with confidence, made international friends, tried snails, and even picked up a French phrase or two (Coucou or “hi” is her new favorite). I stressed less, enjoyed myself more, and was able to stay present in a way that can be tough with the to-do lists and schedules of our everyday life at home. 

Overall, it was bliss, and though we are all exhausted and very happy to be home, I’m already looking forward to our next big adventure, wherever that may be.
